Take care of your wigs and toppers and they will take care of you! Here’s some hints for looking after your new helper hair, and keeping it in tip top condition.

(NOTE: Synthetic wigs and toppers do not last as long as human hair, so you will generally be looking at between two and six months of life in your wigs if you wear them every day.)

Synthetic Wig and Topper Care

  • Ensure that you are using correct products that are made for synthetic wigs – regular human hair shampoos and conditioners will not work on your synthetic wigs. The below outlines how to wash your wig using ‘Estetica Designs’ products, which we sell on our site, but other manufacturers may recommend slightly different practices, so always read the labels before you start!
  • Fill sink with cool water and dissolve a few drops of Estetica synthetic wig shampoo into the water before immersing the wig into it.

  • Gently wash the wig, taking care not to tangle the hair in the sink. Try to keep the hair travelling in the same direction.

  • Rinse gently in cool water, do not rub!

  • Empty the sink and fill again with clean cool water, adding 2-3 droplets of Estetica Conditioner to the water. Mix in thoroughly so it dissolves.

  • Again, immerse the wig into the solution, but this time leave it for at least 5 minutes. Swish gently in the water to ensure all parts of the wig have been conditioned.

  • Remove the wig from the water and rinse thoroughly in cool water. Gently pat the wig dry with a towel (do not rub or wring), then either hang to dry by the nape (especially if you’re looking to add volume), or place on a wig stand. Allow the wig to dry naturally – don’t brush or style while it’s wet or use heat to speed up the drying process!

Heat Friendly Wig and Topper Care

Our Heat Friendly Wigs from Belle Tress are best cared for with high quality Belle Tress products, designed specifically for the fibres. Below are the directions on how to wash your heat friendly style with Belle Tress Shampoo and Conditioner.

  • Comb the hair regularly to remove tangles, especially at the end of the day. Friction is the heat friendly wig’s enemy, and will make the wig tangle, so the longer the wig, the more often you will need to comb it.

  • Fill sink with cool water and emulsify a small amount of synthetic wig shampoo on to the wig.

  • Gently wash the wig taking care not to tangle, trying to keep the hair travelling in the same direction.

  • Rinse thoroughly with cool water and gently shake out any excess water.

  • Towel blot wig cap material and hair, then repeat the process with the Belle Tress Conditioner (again, use cool water, not warm!).

  • Rinse the wig in cool water once it has soaked for a few minutes, then gently pat dry with a clean towel (do not rub or wring!)
  • Air drying the wig tends to give the best results, so pop it on a stand or hang it by the nape. You can blow dry gently, but keep the temperature right down, and be extremely careful if you have curls, as heat may cause them to fall out!!!!

Remi Human Hair Wig and Topper Care

Remi Human Hair is, like human hair, able to be styled and cared for with a variety of products. We personally recommend the use of the highest quality wig care product possible, rather than a cheap shampoo from the supermarket!

  • Comb the hair regularly to remove tangles, especially at the end of the day.

  • Follow the instructions on your product to ensure that it is properly washed and conditioned. Be gentle with the hand tied parts – they’re delicate!

  • Don’t rub or be aggressive with your washing; wig and topper knots, especially on hand tied wigs and elements, are extremely sensitive, and you don’t want to damage them or pull the fibres out. A gentle ‘swish’ rather than a vigorous scrub is far more preferable!
  • Towel blot wig cap material and hair and you can either air dry or style as required. Remember that with human hair the weather may affect the hair, for eg with humidity, so this may impact your styling when air drying.

  • Never use high temperatures on your wig when styling. Use gentle heat and gentle pressure wherever you can. Remember this item is an investment, and is delicate, so treat it with love and respect.

  • Take care with styling products. Where possible use products designed for human hair wigs and toppers as they are less harsh and will be less of a risk to the delicate fibres and knots.
