Why Wear a Wig?

Why indeed! There’s lots of reasons why you might like wearing wigs, and some might not be what you think! We have an amazing array of clients who wear wigs for different reasons, and if we had our way, everyone would realise how awesome wigs are and wear them all the time, not because they have to, but because they want to! Wigs are the best!

Here’s the three main reasons we know our customers come to us looking for that perfect style (or three!):

Hair Loss/Medical Reasons

OK, so this is the obvious one. There’s lots of medical reasons for hair loss, ranging from chemotherapy and radiotherapy, through to autoimmune conditions, genetically inherited conditions, certain medications… the list is almost endless.

Losing hair can be incredibly distressing. When we lose our hair, it’s not an over-exaggeration to say we can feel as though we are losing a part of ourselves, and sometimes our very identity as a woman in societies eyes. It’s not only difficult to deal with, but can also be difficult to explain to others who have not been through the same hair loss experience, and don’t understand how hard it is to come to terms with.

Many ladies choose to wear wigs or toppers when they experience medical hair loss. Perhaps it is to improve confidence, or to get back to the style they had before their hair loss began… there are a wealth of reasons, but whatever it may be, wigs and toppers can be a wonderful way to get back into the world and feel like the beautiful woman that you are inside. You are gorgeous, so why shouldn’t your helper hair be just as gorgeous as you?!

We have more than one client who wear wigs for the sheer convenience of ‘shake and go’ hair. Some great examples are aircraft Cabin Crew, and other shift workers – when you need to get up at 3am for an early morning flight halfway around the world, or that early shift rotation, wigs are a great way to get a few extra minutes of sleep without having to spend an hour doing your hair! Just take your style off the stand, throw it on, and out you go! Anyone who hates having to spend an age in front of the mirror to style, can benefit from the ease of wig wearing. No fuss, no stress – you’re out the door and looking gorgeous!

Fashion and Style

So you’ve always wanted to go blonde, but don’t know if it’s right for you? Then you need a wig! You can change your style every day – be blonde on Monday, a redhead on Tuesday, and a brunette Wednesday – without any hassle or fuss. Try that new colour and see if it works, without having to commit to the change in the salon, knowing if you don’t like it, you can just take the hair off! Perhaps you’ve always wanted something a bit more exotic, like lilac hair, but your office job doesn’t allow you to have lilac hair; well, now you can have that lilac wig for weekends and go back to work on Monday morning looking just like you did when you left Friday afternoon! Don’t be shy, try something new! You never know, you just might like it! 😉

Your time is the right time

Remember that wig and hairpiece wearing is a personal choice. Try not to feel pressured into wearing anything that you’re not ready for. Each of us travels a different road, and we all feel things differently. However you are feeling, that is legitimate, and you have every right to feel it. If you feel that wearing a wig or topper is right for you, go for it.

The Taboo question

Yes, sometimes, for some people, wig wearing is a difficult subject to address. Again, we all approach this differently, but here at Wig Warrior we believe that you should be open and honest about your helper hair, and not be afraid to share that you are wearing it. Yes, some people will ridicule, or not give you the response you would like to hear, but you’d be amazed how many other people out there are experiencing issues that would benefit from helper hair, but are too shy to ask about it, or don’t know where to start. By sharing your experiences, and openly talking about your helper hair, you can help others on their own journey, and break down barriers that really need to be broken!

Have pride in yourself, who you are, and your choices. Remember, you are a warrior woman!
